What is the Great Migration?
The Great Wildebeest Migration is often referred to as the Eighth Wonder of the World. Over two million wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles embark on a perpetual circular clockwise journey across the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem in search of fresh grazing.
Month-by-Month Timing:
- July to October: The iconic Mara River crossings in Kenya's Maasai Mara.
- December to March: Calving season in the southern Serengeti (Ndutu plains).
- April to June: The herds move north through the Western Corridor and Grumeti River.
Key Safari Tips:
- Book at least 6 to 9 months in advance for peak river crossing months.
- Choose a camp located inside or near the prime crossing points.
- Allow at least 3 full days in the reserve to account for unpredictable crossing moments.
